REACH and RoHS

REACH and RoHS

REACH Background:

The European Union’s REACH legislation entered into force on 1st June 2007 to streamline and improve the former legislative framework for chemicals in the European Union (EU). REACH regulates substances (chemicals) including substances in preparations (mixtures) and substances in products (articles).

Article 3(3) of the REACH regulation defines an article as “an object which during production is given a special shape, surface or design which determines its function to a greater degree than its chemical composition”. (ECHA, 2011)  Per this definition Intercon1 is considered to be a manufacturer and distributor of “Articles”.  To comply with REACH regulation, Intercon1 must determine whether there are Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) used within the products it manufactures and the concentration of these SVHCs.

Intercon 1’s position on REACH compliance:

During the course of manufacturing Intercon 1 products, substances, materials, and solvents may be used that might fall under REACH compliancy requirements.  Most of these process-related materials and solvents are washed or wiped off assemblies before they are packaged and shipped to our customers.  Therefore reporting of these substances is not required.

At Intercon 1, we are proud to offer products that comply with REACH regulation, whenever possible.  The process of surveying our suppliers is a continuous process, and we have determined many of our products to be REACH compliant.  For REACH compliance status on a specific product, please contact us.

RoHS Definition:

The European Union’s Directive 2011/65/EU Restriction of the Use of certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) is a rule which restricts the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment to protect the environment and public health. EU Directive 2015/863 adds adds four phthalates to EU Directive 2011/65/EU. Products compliant with this directive do not exceed the allowable amounts of the following restricted materials: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), with some limited exemptions.

Intercon 1’s position on RoHS compliance:

At Intercon 1, we are proud to offer products that comply with RoHS regulation, whenever possible.  Many of our products have been determined to be RoHS compliant.  For RoHS compliance status on a specific product, please contact us.
